Dermatologists are medical consultants who specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin. Skin complaints are very common and can be distressing, persistent, long lasting and worrying.

There can be many causes of skin complaints: hereditary conditions, underlying medical conditions, infections, sun exposure, stress and malignant disease. Eczema, psoriasis, alopecia and acne commonly occur. Moles may cause concern and skin cancer is becoming more frequent. Most skin conditions can be adequately treated by general practitioners but sometimes specialist help is required.
